Kona Ironman

Posted: October 11, 2010 in KestrelBlog

On my way back from the 2010 Kona Ironman on the long flight home. Nice to have internet on the flight to let me catch up with my work.

Ironman this year was filled with highs and lows. I’m always inspired when I arrive in Kona. The vibe here is so positive and the athletes are all ready to race. Lots of nervous energy on the Island as the athletes work on maintaining focus for race day.

The Kestrel athletes all put in strong efforts this year including one who had surgery on Sunday to have her appendix removed. Maybe not the smartest thing to race an Ironman a few days later but she rocked it on race day and felt fine.

The never quit spirit was out there as so many athletes pushed themselves throughout the day to keep moving forward. Dede Greisbauer, Michael Lovato and Karen Smyers all had tough days but each one found their inner voice to keep pushing. There are so many stories to be told on the Island and I incourage each of you to visit the Island either as an athlete or a volunteer, it truely is an awesome experience.

I’m not home for a few and then off to an Ironman clinic in Madison WI, Clearwater, and then a few Taiwan trips.

More updates coming soon so stop by or as always, follow Kestrel on Facebook.
